Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Primary School

We Learn with God as our Guide

About Us

Our Mission Statement

At Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary school we aim to create:

“A happy, learning community, where Christ is our guide and the children are nurtured to achieve their full potential”

Our school motto is “Caritas Christi urget nos”, meaning “The love of Christ fills us with enthusiasm”.

Our Strategic Vision

Our vision at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is to provide the highest quality of education within a Catholic ethos. Through the love of God, we will foster individual uniqueness, working hard using the talents God has given us for the good of other people and to achieve our best. Together, with our families, our parish and our local community, we seek to create a safe, happy school where we ‘Learn with God as our Guide’ and become confident and caring individuals with a passion for learning.

Our Catholic Ethos

This is a Catholic school which seeks to live out the Gospel values. We promote these values by our words and deeds, and Catholic doctrine and practice therefore permeates every aspect of our school’s activity. We provide a Catholic curriculum, which is broad and balanced, recognising that every pupil is unique and is created in the image of God (Gen 1:27). Our curriculum is designed to enable every pupil to discern their vocation and to be well-equipped to follow it as active citizens in service to the world. Catholic Religious Education is the “core of the core curriculum” (Pope St John Paul II) and the foundation of the entire educational process. We also provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities and strong pastoral support. We incorporate democratic principles, value the rule of law, support individual liberty and foster a community in which different faiths and beliefs are respected and celebrated.

Ethos and Values Statement

“What we are called to respect in each person is first of all his life, his physical integrity, his dignity and the rights deriving from that dignity, his reputation, his property, his ethnic and cultural identity, his ideas and his political choices. We are therefore called to think, speak and write respectfully of the other, not only in his presence, but always and everywhere, avoiding unfair criticism or defamation. Families, schools, religious teaching and all forms of media have a role to play in achieving this goal.” [Message of Pope Francis to Muslims throughout the world for the end of Ramadan, 2013]

Every child, parent, governor and member of the school community is unique in self, unique in qualities to offer. All are made in the image and likeness of God. All aspects of our School, the relationships, the curriculum, the policies, the aims and objectives, the pastoral care and discipline have the potential to speak of God’s presence in our lives helping us to unlock our potential.

The faith journey is begun by parents at Baptism and our aim is to support each child in their journey of faith, working alongside parents, the first educators of the children. As a Catholic school we value the importance of the spiritual journey made by the whole school community.

The aims of our school embrace our vision and values for the community of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School. To ‘promote a Christ-centred, caring environment, where individuals develop their full potential, and achievement is celebrated’.

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School supports the inclusion of all children with additional needs; enabling them to remain or reintegrate into mainstream education through an excellent pastoral programme. We place great emphasis on providing the best possible learning environment so as to ensure that all children see themselves as pupils who can achieve and be successful. It is of paramount importance to us that there is a positive ethos in school where success is celebrated and where children who need support and encouragement can access it.

British Values

The government has defined British Values as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. We believe that these values are represented within school.
