Swimming

At Our Lady of Lourdes, we believe swimming is an essential life skill and a fantastic way for children to build confidence, coordination, and resilience.

We have outlined what we offer below, to ensure we are meeting the needs of our pupils and following National Curriculum guidance:

What We Offer:

  • Curriculum-Based Swimming: Pupils receive swimming lessons as part of their school education. We rotate year groups and during 2025_2026 swimming lessons have been offered to both Year 3 and Year 4 classes.
  • Skilled Instructors: Swimming coaches work with children providing direct support and encouragement.
  • School staff members offer support at poolside and work with the swimming coaches each week.
  • Tailored Learning: The group is assessed at the start of their sessions and then groups tailored to suit the level of the group.

Strong Outcomes:

  • Swimming Success: We aim for over 80% of our pupils to be able to swim at least 25 metres by the end of Year 6.

Engaging Experiences:

  • Fun Formats: Lessons include stroke development, water safety, and even end-of-term fun sessions for active enjoyment.
